KUALA LUMPUR: Controversial politician Datuk Ibrahim Ali has unveiled a new political party representing the country's bumiputra population.

Ibrahim announced the formation of Parti Bumiputra Perkasa Malaysia at the Koperasi Telekom Malaysia Bhd seminar hall on Thursday . He said that the party, called Putra for short, was to fight for the rights, well-being of the country, Islam and race . "We have been waiting for the Registrar of Societies to approve our application for seven months," he said, adding that approval was obtained on Wednesday .
He said the party is meant for those looking for a political party that would not compromise on issues related to the bumiputra and Islam."Even though the Federal Constitution defends the religion, race, and country, they compromise ," he said."It is a people's party, so if our activities are disrupted, it is due to lack of funds.The party will have its first general meeting on May 22, he said.
