Google Stadia has a ton of promise as a way to bring video games to every device, but it's hard to know how it'll perform under real-world conditions.

Matt Weinberger/Business Insider, its new video game streaming service that promises to use the cloud to deliver games to almost any device with a screen — including laptops, tablets, smartphones, and TVs.

It played well, and the graphics looked very nice, but once you notice the little bit of input lag, it's hard to un-notice it. The whole idea of Google Stadia is that all of the tricky, processor-intensive business of rendering the game's graphics gets done in Google's enormously powerful data centers. The output is streamed back to your device in real-time, almost like watching someone play a game on YouTube or Twitch, but where you're in control. When you push a button on the controller, the signal gets sent back up to Google's cloud, starting the loop all over again.
