‘I shouldn’t have left’: Former Steelers superstar apologizes to fans for controversial departure from franchise years ago
FILE - In this Oct. 1, 2017, file photo, Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell carries the ball during the second half of an NFL football game against the Baltimore Ravens in Baltimore. A person with direct knowledge of the negotiations says the New York Jets and Bell have agreed to a deal early Wednesday morning, Mach 13, 2019, a person with direct knowledge of the negotiations told The Associated Press.
Missing the whole year, the Steelers never relented in paying the three-down back, and Bell signed with the New York Jets in 2019, beginning a disappointing remainder of his career, never running for more than 789 yards in a season and not taking a single snap in the NFL since 2021 while playing for New York, Baltimore, Kansas City and Tampa Bay.
“I never apologized to the fans [of the Steelers] for sitting out... or for leaving the Steelers,” Bell said in a social media Maybe now, the 31-year-old Bell can temporarily hang the gloves up and head to Acrisure Stadium to take in a Steelers game with the fans he’s mended fences with.
