I live by my planner. It's freeing.
“Next Wednesday at 7:30pm PT?” My long-distance friend and I were planning a phone call.In our 20s, when we were roommates, it would be 10 p.m. and we’d say, “Let’s go dancing,” and we’d be in a bar dancing at 10:05 p.m.birthday. “The calendar is the answer.” She wouldn’t get calendar shade from me.. Yesterday, another friend texted me, “Can we plan something in advance for the *following* week?” This friend lives three blocks away.
Years ago, my psychologist inspired me—anxious, overwhelmed, avoidant, lonely—to plan everything. I was also a flake. My favorite event was the canceled one. I wanted to declare email bankruptcy. And I was “time blind,” where I could not, for the life of me, be on time because it was hard to perceive time and how much of it I had and needed. My psychologist gave me handouts on how to use a planner. “Be realistic,” the handouts repeated.
