A newly resurfaced interview with Monaco’s Princess Charlene has revealed the royal’s lonely life in the principality before she allegedly fled for good earlier this year.
The wife of Monaco’s reigning Prince Albert II, Charlene has been dogged by persistent rumours she is unhappy with her royal life and seeking to end her marriage.
More than a decade earlier, the British society magazine Tatler conducted a world-exclusive interview on the eve of Charlene’s marriage to Albert, the only son of legendary screen star Grace Kelly. Despite seemingly overcoming her cold feet, rumours went into overdrive when Charlene was photographed looking downcast and openly weeping throughout much of her own wedding.Under Monegasque law, only Albert’s twins with Charlene are included in the country’s line of succession to one day accede the throne.
“Above all, my true friends are my family. My mother and two brothers are the only friends I need and the only people I trust. I'm very grateful to have them.” Albert, 65, has always steadfastly denied any trouble in the royal marriage despite the relentless media speculation.
