When you're known for playing similar roles in your acting career, you're bound to be typecast. Typecasting occurs when an actor becomes strongly associated with a specific character or role, making it difficult for casting directors to envision them in other roles.
'I’ve been told by production teams during auditions that my face is too innocent. It’s already hard enough for a Chinese actor to land a leading role, especially in action films or as the antagonist. I’m always offered romance or rom-coms because I was told that I was too cute,' he said. Despite the rejections, he’s never once considered altering his appearance, apart from darkening his skin by tanning in the sun to appear more masculine.
