Employees at Serious Pizza are some of the last to leave the area, since the restaurant closes at 3 a.m. On Fridays and Saturdays, they walk to their cars at around 5 a.m. Evan Johnson, 38, has worked in the area for more than two decades and says there is no choice but to get used to dealing with possible violent events.
“Together with various city departments, we want to create a better area and it will take time. We cannot solve all the problems from one day to the next; we have to work on it every day,” Herrera says.
