Exclusive: Evil Dead Rise director Lee Cronin is confident in the franchise's future, including feeling new directors will get their chance to shine.
Having been the second new filmmaker at the helm to not be creator Sam Raimi, Lee Cronin is confident in the Evil Dead franchise's future after Evil Dead Rise. Cronin's movie acts as a standalone expansion of the horror franchise, following a family living in a crumbling Los Angeles apartment who incidentally unearth a version of the Naturom Demonto and unleash the Deadite evil.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT While speaking exclusively with Screen Rant to discuss Evil Dead Rise's home release, Lee Cronin opened up about his potential return to direct the Evil Dead franchise. Though noting that he and the creatives behind it are not looking to rush a follow-up, he did indicate that the right people are happy with the new movie's success and that he feels he's opened the door for other directors to join alongside him.
Yeah, I think the potential is absolutely there for that to take place. I think we are right now enjoying the success of this movie. I think it's important that you don't just absolutely try and rinse something out immediately.
How Evil Dead Rise Set Up Multiple Sequels In the months since the movie's release, Cronin has teased a variety of ideas for a potential Evil Dead Rise sequel, including a prequel focused on the Book of the Dead centered on a John Wick-like priest facing hordes of Deadites, as well as direct stories following Kassie and Beth after surviving the events of the movie.
The other reason a prequel to the Evil Dead Rise has become a hopeful thought for audiences is the potential return of Bruce Campbell's Ash Williams, especially after his sneaky cameo teasing his Deadite-slaying hero having been displaced at another point in time after the medieval-centric Army of Darkness.
