'I had to re-learn how to walk, talk and basically learn how to be a 29-year-old again. It’s like someone hit the reset button in my brain and I had to start from scratch,' writes reporter Kaylee Remington about her near-fatal brain aneurysm in 2018. More:
CLEVELAND, Ohio – I was 29 and had just finished my Saturday work shift at cleveland.com on Aug. 4, 2018, when I said to myself, “Wow, I have not felt good all day. Why do I feel so off?” I was dizzy, unbalanced and nauseous, and I had experienced headaches on and off through my shift. Because it’s nearing the end of March, which is Brain Injury Awareness Month. Though brain injuries have a dedicated month to provide information, support and resources, it goes beyond just a month. It’s a lifelong journey of recovery.
As time went on it got worse and worse. I could have died if 1.) I didn’t wake up from the pain; and 2.) I was not at my father’s home. I panicked. I had a breathing tube down my throat, wires coming from my head, a draining tube of some kind in my lower back. my eyelids were swollen and bruised and my beautiful long hair was shaved.
