The Arizona Department of Transportation is making final preparations on a pavement improvement project on Interstate 17 between Dunlap Avenue and Deer Valley Road. The project, previously scheduled to begin in August, will begin late summer or early fall. Construction is expected to take approximately 12 months.
The purpose of the project is to extend the life of the pavement and to improve safety and the driving experience on the existing roadway. The project includes removing the existing asphalt pavement and using a diamond grinding treatment to provide a smooth roadway surface. The project will require weekend closures and overnight lane restrictions on I-17 that will impact travel in the area. ADOT will provide information about restrictions and closures in advance so drivers can plan to use alternate routes and allow extra time.
