School districts have started to announce closures for later this week.

JU is the first major Jacksonville college to announce closures due to Hurricane Ian, which is expected to attain major hurricane status at some point prior to an expected landfall somewhere in Florida. As of 2 p.m. Monday, the National Weather Service reported maximum sustained winds of 85 miles per hour for the storm, which is projected to move northward into the Gulf of Mexico.
