Hundreds of ADF personnel will be relocated from Adelaide to north Queensland in a move to strengthen Australia’s northern bases. In the first round of changes around 800 troops will move out of South Australia. Most of the troops will be resettling in Townsville. Others will be split between bases in Brisbane and Darwin. Over time the Army’s tanks and most of its combat vehicles will be based in Townsville as well as half its helicopter fleet. Sky News Australia was joined by Defence Minister Richard Marles to discuss the restructuring of Australia’s military.
