An Australian monarchist organisation has launched an online petition demanding the ABC apologise for its 'biased' coronation coverage, claiming its broadcast was the 'hi-jacking of a significant historical event'.
The ABC aired a two-hour special ahead of King Charles’ coronation on Saturday night in Australia, with a panel discussing the British monarchy and colonisation at the expense of First Nations people and people of colour.
The ABC's coverage of King Charles and Queen Camilla's coronation was labelled"biased" by the Australian Monarchist League. Picture: Handout/Chris Jackson/Getty Images for Buckingham Palace Grant told the panel their conversation was “so important” and “necessary”, as the effects of colonialism live on.
“So, they're talking over the footage of this grand ceremony being prepared, souring the mood, so a lot of people turned off,” he said on Monday. “I’m finding it quite inappropriate that we are talking negatively about the monarchy when it’s coronation day. Have a slight bit of respect ABC,” another wrote.
