The balloon release comes days after the Indy Steelers' football coach was shot and killed after an apparent road rage incident.
Coach Donnell Hamilton started the Indy Steelers youth football team 15 years ago. “I’d like to think that Coach Nell served a real purpose not only in the lives of those who are here today, but so many others through the years, whose lives he touched,” Hogsett said. Hamilton started the Indy Steelers in 2005 with a goal to steer kids away from violence. Since his start, he and his co-coaches provided that space for children for years on and off the field. Days before he was shot, Hamilton had received news he worked on for over a decade — his team’s field would undergo improvements through a Lilly Endowment grant.
