Specialist police have dismantled a sophisticated Albanian crime syndicate, arresting two foreign nationals during raids across Melbourne's north-west.

Five warrants were executed at addresses in Taylors Hill, Greenvale, Taylors Lakes, Deer Park and Rockbank yesterday.

Police seized nearly $300,000 cash from a Taylors Hill property, while more than 700 cannabis plants were seized from the others.In total, in excess of a tonne of cannabis with a street value of approximately $5 million was seized.The Albanian national was in the country on a bridging visa at the time of arrest and has been charged with cultivating and trafficking large commercial quantities of cannabis and possessing proceeds of crime.

The investigation began in June when police received a tip-off regarding suspicious behaviour at one of the addresses. In total, in excess of a tonne of cannabis with a street value of approximately $5 million has been seized during this operation, police said. VIPER Taskforce Detective Acting Inspector Leigh Howse said the crime syndicate was "very sophisticated"."It's a significant concern that individuals are trying to get into this country on a permanent basis are involved in this criminal activity.Rodriguez was bailed today and will front Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 8 January, while Ndreu was remanded.
