How Yainer Diaz fits in Astros' catcher's plans
PITTSBURGH — Carrying three catchers on the opening day roster did not arrive as a surprise. The configuration Houston chose did, prompting wonder how the club would parcel out playing time early in the season.
Thirteen games in, it’s clear what Brown tried to convey. Martín Maldonado is the team’s everyday starter and playing time elsewhere is sparse. Diaz started Wednesday for just the third time this season — and one of those came at designated hitter. Salazar has appeared in three games and made just one start.
