The first, being carried out by Australia's financial intelligence authority, AUSTRAC, will assess one major point of concern — the mint's level of compliance with anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing laws.

In response to those issues, the WA government has said it's given the mint $34 million to upgrade its systems and hire more staff to ensure it's complying.An 'incident review process' has also been invoked by the world's "independent authority for precious metals", the London Bullion Market Association .

Ultimately, they are also likely to be resolved far sooner than either a parliamentary inquiry or a royal commission could hope to achieve.
