The fate of a giant piece of the Berlin Wall has been a mystery. Until now.
ByBERLIN—Not long after the fall of the Berlin Wall, Joe Sciamarelli was burdened with a broken heart.
It was 1990, and the New Jersey home builder had arranged for the first intact pieces of the wall to travel to the U.S., according to researchers and Mr. Sciamarelli. The two 12-foot by 4-foot concrete slabs each sported half of an original painting that, when put together, formed a bold, red heart.
