Leaving a dream job isn't easy. Just ask Alex Costa. He left his job at Google to become a YouTube star. A year later, he's already he’s making over four times the salary he had at Google and getting brand deals from Ferrari, Nike, and more.

what makes Alex’s story so unique. By day, he was partner manager, helping YouTube’s top creators grow on the platform. By night, he was trying to grow on the platform himself. To take the analogy further: he coached the Lebrons of YouTube by dayIn other words, Alex’s decision to quit wasn’t spur of the moment. But years in the making.

“At first, I couldn’t believe it. But now it makes so much sense. It’s embarrassing for guys to ask other guys about fashion or hair products. But online, they can be themselves. They can watch my channel to learn without judgement,” Alex said. Many people, including Alex’s family, not only questioned why he worked two jobs but why he’d quit the more stable one. After all, working at YouTube is a dream job. You have amazing benefits, work alongside incredible people, and get access to exclusive events like YouTube’s Creator Summit - which is where Alex met Will Smith back in 2017.

14 months after quitting his YouTube job, Alex’s risk is already paying off. His YouTube channel now has 1.7 million followers and he’s making over four times the salary he had at Google. He’s worked with top brands like Ferrari, Nike, and Mastercard and has been signed by United Talent Agency. Recently, Alex also started crafting his own grooming line which will debut this summer.
