CAMBRIDGE, March 28 — Researchers in the UK have developed a system to transform plastic waste and CO2 into synthesis gas, or “syngas,” containing hydrogen. On a large scale, this technology could one day make it possible to recycle tons of plastic into hydrogen to power clean vehicles.
Today, plastic can be transformed into a multitude of products, including paints and solvents. It is even possible to recycle plastic into gasoline by incorporating certain additives. However, turning it into hydrogen could represent a cleaner alternative for the environment.
