The Mortal Kombat reboot totally ruined Goro by killing him off so quickly, but Mortal Kombat 2 can easily still make up for the mistake. The Mortal Kombat movie franchise was killed in 1997 with the critically slammed Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, but the 2021 reboot was a huge step in the right direction, as it was a hard R and featured the most satisfying fatality sequences possible.

So there's no way that a complete novice like Cole Young could have defeated him.
King Gorbak Can Replace Goro In Mortal Kombat 2 King Gorbak is the ruler of Kuatan, which is the home of the Shokan, and Goro's father, and he could replace his son in Mortal Kombat 2. The character has never had a huge role in the games, and he's only appeared in two of the countless Mortal Kombat releases. However, he has proved that he is way stronger and more powerful than Goro, only he doesn't take part in the games.
Gorbak seeking revenge for the death of his son is even part of Mortal Kombat II's narrative, as the game sees Gorbak ordering the death of every Earthrealm warrior, though he sent Kintaro to do his bidding. So the unjust and unfaithful death of Goro could ironically lead to a very close adaption of the Mortal Kombat II video game. A brutal NC-17-rated Mortal Kombat 2 could reveal Gorbak as the real terrifying Shokan in the movie universe that Goro was in the games.
Mortal Kombat Teases A Whole Army Of Shokans A brief scene in Mortal Kombat sees Shang Tsung visit Kuatan, showing that Goro isn’t that special in his homeland, as so many Shokans have his terrifying physique. A whole army of Shokans going up against the Earthrealm could be the spectacle Mortal Kombat 2 needs. It'd also make for a great cinematic event given that Kuatan is such a spectacular location.
