It’s also worth saying that, while our kaleidoscopic culture places each of us at varying intersections of privilege in every room we walk into, it isthe duty of the oppressed to shoulder the responsibility educate their oppressors on racism on top of experiencing this trauma.
If that sounds like a confounding backdrop in which to have these conversations, it’s true doing the work of dismantling racism is never easy—and is uniquely —but the good news is that there is always room to grow, to learn, and there’s plenty of impactful work you can do, starting in your everyday life. Let’s dig in.Part of the commitment to fight racism, even with our closest loved ones and family members, must begin first with taking a close look at areas where we might improve our own behavior in day-to-day life. That means, even doing the work of self-education on areas in which you may be lacking information.
