MLB: Oakland A’s righty Frankie Montas will have MRI on his right shoulder Tuesday, manager Mark Kotsay said.

OAKLAND – The A’s will determine the next course of action for right-handed starter Frankie Montas after he has an MRI on his right shoulder Tuesday, manager Mark Kotsay said.

Kotsay said Montas, who wasn’t able to get an MRI on Monday because of the Fourth of July holiday, felt good when he came to the Coliseum before the A’s game with the Toronto Blue Jays. “I think that’s probably the right direction,” Kotsay said. “You never want to set something in stone. But we’re going to wait until we get those results back and that will give us an idea of what direction we’re going to be able to go and determine the timeline.”

Montas, after Sunday, was 3-9 with a 3.26 ERA in 96.2 innings. He also had 100 strikeouts and a 1.02 WHiP, marks that were tied for 11th and 21st, respectively, in Major League Baseball.Monday’s game marked Matt Chapman’s first game back at the Coliseum since he was traded to the Blue Jays in March for right-handed pitcher Gunnar Hoglund, infielder Kevin Smith, and left-handers Zach Logue and Kirby Sneed.
