Kevin Stefanski decided to throw and not run with 2:04 left in the game on Sunday. Here's how he explained his decision.
Cleveland Browns quarterback PJ Walker throws a pass with protection in the second half, October 29, 2023, at Lumen Field.SEATTLE -- The Browns and head coach Kevin Stefanski had an opportunity to make life very difficult for Seattle on Sunday as the Seahawks tried to come back and win their game.
Facing third-and-3 from the Browns’ 41 with 2:04 left in the fourth quarter and Seattle sitting on two timeouts, Stefanski decided to throw instead of run. In theory, at least, it was the time to throw if he was going to, given the clock would stop regardless after the play for the two-minute warning.
In practice, however, P.J. Walker threw in the direction of Amari Cooper and the ball hit Seahawks safety Jamal Adams in the helmet and popped in the air. Safety Julian Love intercepted the pass. Seattle turned around and used a 5-play, 57-yard drive to take the lead.Amari Cooper continues to carry the Browns offense, and somehow remains underrated: Ashley Bastock
Despite questionable play call, Kevin Stefanski proved his coaching chops in Browns loss to Seahawks: Jimmy Watkins “Obviously with the interception, with the outcome you’re always thinking what can you do differently,” Stefanski said after the game. “We had options there. Certainly you can run and certainly you can pass it, but the result, that was tough.”“ definitely was a consideration,” Stefanski said. “There’s going to be plays you want back. You’re also looking to try to give your guys the best chance to go make a play.”“It was a quick game play,” Stefanski said. “I have to look at it.
