BMW is automating some quality control checks on the assembly line, using cameras and AI software to identify defects
Mr. Schindler, head of artificial intelligence innovation for BMW’s production systems group, has installed AI-powered quality-control checks in many of the company’s 31 factories over the past three years, he said, typically testing the systems during planned work stoppages such as holidays.
