Wanting to plug that gap, Mathur took to Instagram to start the Ribbon Movement, which she describes as a "powerful statement of permission" and a way of showing a not-so-random act of kindness, whether that's a chat, lending a nappy or even a hug.The ribbons also meant that parents who are sporting one won't be offended if someone offers them help, which is often a reason people are reluctant to step up in the first place, according to Mathur.
"The ribbon says 'I'm not going to bite your head off if you come to me'. But it also says, 'I'm up for being kind to you', whether that's practically or just some comforting words. Or you'll go into a cafe and you're on your own, you're feeling wobbly, and you just see me with a little ribbon on my bag and you know that I'm just open," she adds.
