The Alaska Supreme Court affirmed on Friday a ruling by the state superior court in 2022 that agreed with a decision by the Board of Dental Examiners to revoke the license of Dr. Seth Lookhart. Lookhart was captured on video posted by himself standing on a hoverboard as he extracted a tooth from a sedated patient. The video was reportedly taken in 2016.He and his former office manager, Shauna Cranford, were accused of pushing patients to needlessly undergo intravenous sedation in order to bill Medicaid for the service.the lower court decision, calling Lookhart’s actions “a fraudulent scheme of staggering proportions that jeopardized the health and safety of his patients.

A statement from the court said Lookhart not only unnecessarily sedated his patients to bill the maximum amount to Medicaid, resulting in more than $1.6 million in charges, but performed procedures that “almost killed” several people, referring to “reckless sedation practices” and an “astonishing range of misconduct.”

“This case involved the most widespread misconduct of any licensing matter in recent memory, if not ever, in Alaska,” state Attorney General Treg Taylor said in the release. “We’re pleased that Dr. Lookhart will no longer be able to exploit vulnerable patients for his personal gain.
