Houston council is set to address a new Hobby Airport food contract.
food contract Wednesday morning, as the city's current contractor, Pappas Restaurants, continues its fight to renew its contract.to a competing company, Areas, and its local partners. Chris Pappas, the CEO of the Houston restaurant chain, has been at City Hall in recent weeks questioning the selection process.
If the city goes ahead with the contract, it would end Pappas' two-decade run in the airport. The move for a vote comes after the city has been seeking airport proposals for three years, including three separate rounds of bidding, an unusually lengthy process to award a contract. The company has hired lobbyists to persuade council members, spoken at weekly council meetings, changed the banners on its stores with messages like “Keep Pappas at Hobby Airport,” and asked supporters to sign an online petition.
