A 38-year-old housewife from Bera, Malaysia, fell victim to an online job scam promising high profits through a social media platform. She lost RM147,753 after being tricked into making repeated payments to a suspect who claimed her work was flawed.

A 38-year-old housewife from Bera suffered a loss of RM147,753 after becoming a victim of an online job scam via a social media application in mid-December. Pahang Police Chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said the victim was attracted to the online job offer through a platform known as 'Hand Craft Group 049' on December 13, which promised substantial profits for each product sold on Telegram.

The victim was given a link to perform each task, but the suspect then instructed her to redo the handmade work because there were alleged errors. 'In the meantime, the victim also made payments through 28 transactions to nine different bank accounts to obtain the link from the suspect. 'The victim began to realize she was being scammed when the suspect said she had successfully earned a commission of RM200,000 but failed to redeem it, resulting in a loss. All the transactions were made using her own savings,' he said in a statement today
