UNITED STATES - SEPTEMBER 15: Rep. Dusty Johnson, R-S.D., joined by other members of the Problem Solvers Caucus, speaks during a news conference to unveil the March to Common Ground, a COVID-19 relief package, at the House Triangle on Tuesday, Sept. Johnson asked., Johnson writes about his "concerns regarding the extreme shortage of infant formula across the country" and the agencies’ "roles in helping find solutions.

Johnson pointed to the "four adverse events and two deaths allegedly associated with Abbott Nutrition powdered infant formulas from its Sturgis, Michigan, facility" and said that the bacteria causing the infections "were found in the facility during the course of a January 2022 – March 2022 inspection."

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the first new Alzheimer’s drug in decades over the objection of agency statisticians who said there was insufficient evidence to support approval, according to newly released internal memos.Johnson wrote that the "product recall and near-shutdown of the Sturgis facility has impacted availability of infant formula and significantly driven up the price" and that 26 states, including his own, "are struggling with supply.
