Bicol chess prodigy Bince Rafael Operiano, who topped the under 10 years old category in the recent 6th Eastern Asia Youth Chess Championship held in Bangkok, Thailand has been feted by the House of Representatives.
This, after the House adopted during plenary session Monday night, Nov. 21 House Resolution No. 576.
Born on Oct. 24, 2013 to parents Ben Operiano and Rosemary Roblico Operiano, the grade three pupil from San Isidro Elementary School in qualified for the international tournament after he won the National Youth and Schools Chess Championship Grand Finals Boys under 9 category held at the Dapitan City Cultural Complex in Zamboanga del Norte last September.
“By winning a trophy and four medals, he has made our country proud and has shown the spirit of Filipino competitiveness and excellence in chess. He deserves to be commended for the honor, recognition, and inspiration he has brought,” Lee said in his measure. A total of 181 players from 12 countries in Eastern Asia participated in the said chess competition hosted by the Thailand Chess Association.
Declared as the overall champion, the Philippines bagged 32 gold, 27 silver and 22 bronze medals from the event.
