Hours after proclaiming he's 'all in,' Stephen Moore took himself out of consideration for the Fed nomination
President Donald Trump’s presumptive Federal Reserve nominee Stephen Moore took himself out of consideration Thursday after a barrage of sexist and racist comments resurfaced last week—and GOP support vanished. Moore’s withdrawal is yet another embarrassing loss for Trump as he seeks to pack the Fed with political allies who will commit to lowering interest rates.
This week he tried to defend a crack he made after Trump took office, in which he cited a cartoon’s joke headline that read, “First Thing Donald Trump Does As President Is Kick a Black Family Out of Public Housing,” referring to the Obamas. In 2000, Moore said on CSPAN, “The male needs to be the breadwinner. One of the reasons you’ve seen a decline of the family, not just in the black community but now in the white community as well, is because women are more economically self-sufficient.”.
