UNION CITY -- A horseback rider was hurt and their mount died after falling 40 yards down an embankment and into a creek in Union City, the Alameda County Fire Department said Saturday.
Firefighters were called about 8:40 p.m. Thursday for a large animal rescue, the fire department said in a series of tweets.Access to the scene was limited and crews had to find creative ways to transport equipment to set up for rescue operations. East Bay Regional Parks police and the Alameda County Sheriff's Office were also involved, the fire department said.
Upon arrival, Unified Command was set up for extended operations with East Bay Regional Parks Police Department and the Alameda County Sheriff Office was requested for drone operations. In addition, a veterinarian was requested. Cont…
