The former Telstra boss and other prominent figures who received Australia Day honours say there should be a meaningful debate about Indigenous opposition to January 26.
says moving the date of Australia Day should be on the national agenda, endorsing the Voice to parliament proposal as part of the nation’s journey to Indigenous reconciliation.

Australia is a wonderful country with a wonderful history, but that doesn’t mean things can’t be changed and that’s legitimate going forward.
“I really want to encourage all of our political parties to approach this on a bipartisan basis. We’re starting to see a divisive debate, which I don’t think will be helpful or appropriate.” Dr Ferguson said she also strongly supported the Voice but was worried debate over the detail of the proposal was going to cost support.
Commercial barrister David Denton, KC, was “honoured and happy” to receive the accolade, after receiving an AM for service to the law. The silk suggested a convention like last September’s Job Summit, which explored industrial relations reform, to discuss the major aspects of how the Voice would work.
“How wonderful that the Labor government is recognising the importance of being bipartisan,” she said.
