Hong Kong is abuzz with excitement as the city's first-ever panda twins make their public debut. The arrival of the cubs has sparked a wave of 'panda mania' across the city, with themed decorations, promotions, and a special exhibition.
Hong Kong 's baby panda twins are set to make their public debut on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at Ocean Park theme park. The twins, one male and one female, were born six months ago and join four other pandas at the park. This marks a significant moment for Hong Kong , as it is the first time ever that giant panda cubs have been born in the city. The arrival of the twins has sparked a wave of 'panda mania' across Hong Kong .
Since their mother, Ying Ying, became the world's oldest giant panda on record to give birth, just a day shy of her 19th birthday, panda-themed decorations and promotions have taken over the city. Metro trains and the airport express have adopted panda themes, and an exhibition featuring 2,500 panda sculptures has been displayed at various locations throughout Hong Kong. Adding to the excitement is the arrival of two pandas from Sichuan, An An and Ke Ke, gifted by the central Chinese government in September and only recently put on display in December. The city's leader, John Lee, celebrated the occasion at a ceremony on Saturday, stating, 'This is the first pair of giant pandas born in Hong Kong, and the whole city is cheering with excitement.' He announced a naming competition for the twins, with the chosen names to be revealed in the first half of 2025
