The first phase of a massive redevelopment that would create a new village in Santa Clara could sprout across the street from Levi’s Stadium.

City officials have approved a tentative subdivision map — an unwieldy-sounding, routine, yet essential part the huge mixed-use development — that clears the way for the first phase of the project to proceed. The first phase would be built on what’s called Parcel 5 across the street from Levi’s Stadium along Tasman Drive near Lafayette street.
