Apparently expecting to either wow the city or skate by unnoticed, the board tried to do an end-run around the Hoboken electorate and rightly suffered for it.
Since it cannot go back to the voters on the subject for at least a year, the board now has the opportunity to get the process right.
The idea of opening recreational facilities like a much-needed swimming pool to the public outside of school hours also needs to be discussed and debated publicly, the pros and cons weighed and the logistics nailed down before bringing the subject back to a vote.
