HK police fire tear gas at protesters

POLICE today fired tear gas and pepper spray at hundreds of Hong Kong pro-democracy protesters who gathered in opposition to a controversial security law proposed by China last week. The proposal is expected to ban treason, subversion and sedition, and comes after Hong Kong was shaken by months of massive, sometimes violent anti-government protests, and repeated warnings from Beijing that it would not tolerate dissent.
