Hispanic and black populations create less air pollution than whites, but breathe more of it, a new study finds
A new study about the environment and public health reveals a stark inequity: White populations in the United States contribute more to air pollution than minority Hispanic and black populations. However, Hispanic and black populations are more likely to be breathing in the air pollution that's created.
The study, published this week in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, analyzes a few key points. There is some good news: The study concluded that, despite this disparity, levels of fine particulate matter pollution have fallen across the country overall between 2003 and 2015 -- something everyone can benefit from. "This study points out that air pollution has real consequences," Reichmuth said."It's not just number on a spreadsheet, or who gets to enjoy blue skies.
