Houston ISD board considers termination of Jack Yates principal
The principal of Jack Yates High School was relieved of her duties, an interim principal has been announced and the district has begun the hiring process to find a permanent replacement. The discussion regarding Guillory's termination will happen in closed session, but the board will vote publicly on the matter. The district sent a note home to parents the Friday before Winter break that Guillory was"relieved of her duties.
Guillory has been with the district for nearly two decades, where she has held various roles such as prinicipal, assistant principal and a dean of instruction, according to her Linkedin profile. HISD declined to give any details about the leave. This isn't the first time a principal has been relieved of their duties with little information provided. The district also provided few details around the removal of the Bellaire High School principal who announced he would resign in January after being under investigation by the district for months.
Typically, the district provides little information about removals citing it as a personnel matter, said Jackie Anderson, president of the Houston Federation of Teachers. “I trust when the district makes the decision to terminate someone they do it on the grounds that it will be held up in court,” Anderson said. “I don’t know the specifics…but I hope those decisions are made around what is best for the children.”
