A water hole along Alameda Creek, Little Yosemite in the East Bay shares its name with the national park known for its waterfalls, rock faces and blue pools.
With its awe-inspiring peaks, stunning valleys and cathedral-like rock formations, Yosemite National Park is one of California’s true treasures. It’s also extremely expensive, overcrowded and occasionally a traffic nightmare. So, what if I told you that you could get a taste of Yosemite majesty without leaving the Bay Area? To be entirely honest, you can’t. Nothing beats the real deal.
It’s important to take this into account, as Sunol can hit triple digits in the summer. The Canyon View Trail reaches Little Yosemite at the 3.4-mile mark. After a hike that’s been almost entirely in the sun with arid conditions, the water hole feels like a fertile oasis. Much like its much larger counterpart, Little Yosemite is highlighted by a charming waterfall. And while it may not hold a candle to 2,400-foot Yosemite Falls, the mini-waterfall is a calming presence.
