“We are getting a better understanding of what forever looks like after a mass shooting. But we’re also working through the memorializing, recognizing the long-term impacts of what a devastating event like this has on a community.”

It has been a little more than three months since seven people were killed and 48 others were injured in a shooting at Highland Park’s Fourth of July Parade.

In the months since the shooting, Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering has increased her calls for a ban on assault weapons.She says her community is still in the process of working toward a recovery. “We are getting a better understanding of what forever looks like after a mass shooting,” Rotering said. “But we’re also working through the memorializing, recognizing the long-term impacts of what a devastating event like this has on a community.”
