High time for new laws to better protect victims, say experts

LONDON (Reuters) - A month ago, Italian sport fans may have thought they would be seeing their team defend their European Championship title in soccer this weekend - but they will have other reasons to cheer as two of their tennis stars stand on the brink of history.

PETALING JAYA: There is a dire need for a new comprehensive legislative framework on cyberbullying to safeguard Internet users, especially the young and vulnerable, say lawyers and criminologists.

He said the negative effects of social media could be seen with the younger and vulnerable groups being targeted. “Hence, there is a need for a specific law against cybercrime to protect those susceptible to such ills,” he told The Star. He said it was high time for the government to take the matter seriously since cyberbullying was as harmful as physical violence.
