“Can’t risk player safety,” one coach says after his team’s basketball game is postponed until next month

As an atmospheric river threatened to slam the Bay Area on Wednesday, high school administrators took proactive measures and called off games scheduled for the afternoon and evening.

Liberty boys basketball coach Jon Heinz told the Bay Area News Group that his team’s game against Benicia, scheduled for Wednesday night, was postponed until Feb. 11. As of midday Wednesday, the West Bay Athletic League had postponed all of its boys soccer games later in the day. The scheduled included Menlo School at Pinewood, Crystal Springs at Priory and The King’s Academy at Sacred Heart Prep.

St. Ignatius and Pinole Valley’s girls basketball game was also called off. It is unclear if the non-league game will be rescheduled.
