Hidalgo says colleagues tried to 'cut me out,' then calls for unity at swearing-in ceremony

"My fellow commissioners tried to cut me out of the program," Hidalgo told the audience."They can't take two women in power. Today when Commissioner Briones is sworn in, we will have for the first time two women." Hidalgo credited Garcia and Precinct 1 Commissioner Rodney Ellis for their ongoing work to reduce violent crime, expand early childhood education and fund mental health care services.her opponents from the campaign season, saying she faced fierce criticism because of her support for COVID-19 safety precautions, stronger flood mitigation policies and criminal justice programs.
Hidalgo was not the only one missing on stage during the presentation. Several judges skipped the ceremony, as well.
