Malaysia has been hit by hot and dry weather in recent months with temperatures rising beyond 35°C during the day.
While Peninsular Malaysia has largely been spared sweltering temperatures, several districts in Sabah – Beluran, Kinabatangan, Nabawan, Tuaran and Kota Marudu – have been issued Level 1 pre-heatwave warnings since Aug 1.
On May 13, MetMalaysia issued Level 1 notices for 31 places in the country, the highest number for a single day this year.Intermittent rain has done little to bring down the temperature in Beluran. He said authorities advised schools to let pupils use loose-fitting clothes like their sports T-shirts instead of uniforms, as well as take measures to avoid outdoor activities to avoid heat stroke.
