The track can be described as having a little bit of everything, but above all it’s 100% Cleveland.
CLEVELAND, Ohio — Listen up, Guardians fans. Your team has a new song to go along with its new name.
After announcing the team’s name change from Indians to Guardians last summer, officials sought a new song to thread the connection between the city, the club and its fans. In replacing “Tribe Time Now,” the track used by the club since 2006, they needed to create music that was both meaningful and functional.
Guardians executive vice president of marketing and brand strategy Alex King said it was important for the club to assemble a diverse group of musicians and voices in order to reflect the Cleveland community. They assembled a unique group of talented performers, including Welshly Arms bandmates Jon and Bri Bryant and drummer Joey “Coach” Hanna. Vocalist Stacey Richardson added her stylings to the track after recently having delivered arrangements for the Rock Hall induction ceremonies.
When fans tune in to hear games on the Guardians Radio Network or watch on the Bally Sports Great Lakes television broadcasts, they’ll be able to catch sections of the track, as well as during events at the ballpark and around town. One of the lyrical obstacles, Getz admitted, was that with a new team name, fans have yet to adopt a shorthand nickname, like “Tribe,” which became the lead-in to the former track.
