The county has recorded 12 cases of mpox so far this year, nearly twice the amount from last year but far from the nearly 186 cases in 2022.

APHealthcare organizations and LGBTQ groups in Hudson County and New Jersey are quickly raising awareness about the potential spread of mpox after seeing the latest case numbers for 2024, nowhere near the volume in 2022, but still a significant 50% spike already from a quiet 2023.
“It hasn’t gone away,” said Axel Torres Marrero, senior director of Public Policy and Prevention at Hyacinth, a New Brunswick-based HIV service provider with a location in Jersey City. “We remain consistent in our messaging and have included mpox in all of our prevention efforts. But it is difficult to bring it to people’s attention if it’s not front and center.”
