Symptoms of an overdose of hydromorphone include dizziness, sleepiness, confusion, low heart rate, slow and difficult breathing, cold and sweaty skin, convulsions, coma and death. If a person has accidentally taken the 8-milligram tablet of hydromorphone instead of the 2-milligram tablet, they should immediately contact a health professional or a regional anti-poison centre, even if they have no symptoms.
