has taken action against two Ontario homebuilders, Mansoura Development Inc. and Altona Custom Homes, due to concerns of improper conduct.. on the grounds the company has failed to meet conditions imposed by Tarion regarding warranty claims, indicates a release, adding Mansoura was required to complete a Customer Service and Tarion Requirements course, following repeated failure to resolve warranty claims.
Despite numerous opportunities to demonstrate its competence by completing this course, the company failed to do so and is no longer able to build and sell homes in Ontario, states the HCRA.and a director of the company were convicted in Provincial Offences Court of failing to enrol a new home in the Tarion warranty program as required by Ontario law. The company was sentenced to a fine of $20,000, with the director fined an additional $10,000.
“Having a licence to build and/or sell new homes in Ontario requires maintaining high professional standards,” said Wendy Moir, HCRA’s CEO and registrar, in a statement. “The HCRA will continue to follow through on complaints and concerns about a builder’s conduct, to protect consumers and to ensure a level playing field for builders.”
